…Let’s Talk Skincare with Anne.

Hello all and welcome once again. This is the blog I’ve been waiting to share with you!  It is the first of my skincare routine blogs.

So…. Let’s get to it, shall we?

Thou shalt…!

As I have stated in the past, there are very few MUST DOs for good skincare. But the MUST DOs that exist are imperative for good skin and they are:

  •   Cleanse
  •   Tone
  •   Moisturize
  •   SPF (day routine)

Cleansing your face, and washing it thoroughly and completely, is a must if you expect your skin to behave like you want it to.

Washing your face not only gets rid of bacteria, it also provides your skin with much-needed hydration. This is why it's important to moisturize your skin shortly after bathing - the moisturizer's function is to seal moisture within the skin (The Discovery Website).

Nighttime care

Each night, whether you realize it or not, your skin also goes to sleep and tries to recover from the current day and prepare for tomorrow.

However, your skin can’t do that if it is clogged up - still has makeup from the current day - or just isn’t cared for like it should be.  Daily cleansing, day and night, is a MUST!

A common benefit of facial cleansing is the removal of dirt, oil and other unwanted debris.  Throughout the day, the skin on your face is continually facing dirt and old (dead) skin cells.  Daily cleansing removes these impurities and gives the skin a fresh new look.

Sleeping beauty!

Every day your skin is aging.  Sleeping with your makeup still on, deprives it of a vital nutrient, oxygen.  “When makeup is left on, it blocks the natural exfoliating process, which can leave your skin looking dull,” says Dr. Robins Ashinoff, Director of Cosmetic Dermatology at Hackensack Medical Center, in New Jersey.

When you wash your face, you automatically - by the mere act of rubbing or scrubbing - increase the blood flow to your face. This increased blood flow allows for the absorption and penetration of other products that you may apply to your face.

So, if you don’t wash your face before bed, it’s a missed opportunity to do something great for your skin while you sleep and wake up with smoother, softer, clearer skin. Who wouldn’t want that!
Basically, if you aren’t washing your face at night, you are throwing away your money on products because they are not performing to maximum effect.

Reduce aging effects

Another interesting fact, and one that is really important to me, is - if you do not wash your face regularly (day and night) this can lead to LARGE PORES! YUK!!

If you do wear makeup, when you leave it on overnight your skin ages seven days – wow - and the makeup can seep deep down into the skin, clogging pores. And, leaving makeup on may lead to inflammation and can lead to dreaded ACNE!! All of this ages your skin.

Morning glow

So, if you do all this washing at night, then follow with a good skincare regime, why do you have to wash your face in the morning?

You must wash in the morning because you accumulate dead skin cells overnight and in order to have that radiant and glowing skin, you’ve got to get rid of the dead cells.

Do you really want to put your makeup on top of dead skin cells and excess oil? Would you skip brushing your teeth in the morning because you did it before bed? I don’t think so…

Stay tuned for some other cleansing tips and tricks that I will share with you in my next blog!

Till then….
